If the coolant bypass valve (CBV)is the issue, it might need just the right cycle of temp and AC settings to show itself for the mechanic to find.
I replaced a leaking CBV on our 1999 SE 2.3lpt once. After I saw on this board how soon some of the valves began to leak, I replaced the CBV with MacKay hoses, and I've done the CBV deletes on all three new-to-us 9-5's since.
You could put a piece of paper or paper towel under the valve with water-based pen writing on it and check it in a few days for evidence of leaking (the ink will bleed) - BUT the access is tight enough that you would be well into the job of replacing with the MacKay hoses by the time you got the paper in place.
Good luck on finding your leak - and let us know when you find it.
