The triple AAA guy did it,. He also broke it. Got the car in reverse and towed to Sacramento. After finding out the tow driver just cost me 600.00 for a new shifter linkage cable, the mechanic tapped a couple of cotter pins in the retaining plastic and then used hardening putty to fix. It will last forever. I ended up getting #300.000 back from the owner of the tow truck company. I said if actually costs 600.00, but i am willing to split the difference, take the risk and go with a half ass fix that cost me 140.00. So after the mechanic verified that the lock cylinder was fine, he replaced the ignition switch.. $ 460.00 for that job. Key still pulled out and car still ran without key..... BUT it did turn now. So he was going crazy trying to figure this out. Turns out it was a fuse to power an aftermarket AMP for a subwoofer. He pulled the fuse preventing power to the amp, and TA DA...... the issue was gone, .. the car shut off with the ignition key . Short version,..... a day wasted, and a waste of money for a switch I didnt need. He left the switch in , because he already put it all back together. Total damage for this ???? $300.00 and I have a new switch and a bullet proof linkage connection under hood. It would have been $600.00, 460.00 for switch, 140.00 for REPAIR of linkage end connector... With the $300.00 given to me from the tow company, I was out $300.00
