Never heard of one of these pressed wheel bearings creating too much drag without also being noisy.
Maybe in the old days if someone tightened the hell out of those conical wheel bearings it would drag for awhile before it seized.
With a new wheel bearing installed it can even be hard to turn the hub by hand without the wheel mounted so I don't think anything is wrong on your car.
Here is one of my reflections that goes in line with your thinking and that I have not been able to get an answer for.
When I have to push a modern car into the shop, I am amazed over the rolling resistance and how much force it takes to get it in.
The few times when I have an older car from the 80s or earlier, it amazes me how easy that car rolls in when I have to push them.
So to me it seems that all this craziness with wide tires and toe in galore with camber issues making the car look like a birthing toad must affect gas mileage in a bad way in the name of stopping distance, curve taking and sporty acceleration.
