A couple of months ago the power steering started making noise, so I checked the fluid and it was low. No puddles where I park, so I figured it's the first usage and top off in 90,000 miles. Used a few ounces of Pentosin synthetic ($20 a qt!) as recommended by the local auto parts guys I use for small stuff.
Dropped the car off at my indie for an inspection and he said there is a hole in the rubber hose of the high pressure side and the PS reservoir was empty. Seems the Genuine SAAB parts are backordered both at SAAB Parts USA and eEuro. Only ProParts are available, and the Pro part of that name means propensity to fail.
We discussed removing the high pressure line, which includes a cooling loop, and having a shop recrimp new high pressure hose on the tubing. I am ok with that, but it might tie the car up a few days.
My question is, given the GM parts sharing agenda, is there a Saturn, Chevy, Buick or Cadillac hose that might be a bolt in replacement?
Thanks in advance.
