2000 lpt wagon with 240,000 mls.
I would really like some guidance here.
Changed some grubby 40,000 mile ATF yesterday in a tranny that was brand new just that long ago. I'll call it the "3.5 change".
I have always been doubtful about the readings I take from the dipstick. They seem all over the place from one reading to the next.
After the 3.5 change yesterday I drained 3.75 and replaced 3.0 and it seemed full. Maybe over full. When I drained I had the engine warm to aid in getting more oil out, true, but don't want to mess up the tranny.
I cannot be sure if there is enough oil in there or too little.
So is it just that I need to wait til it is completely cold to get an accurate reading?
Is it just inherently inaccurate (can't imagine it)?
Help please with some suggestion.
Thanks for any help guys.
