My 2004 Aero wagon was approaching the 120K mark and there was more noise coming from the engine than normal. So, I changed out the tensioner and pulley, upper idler pulley and center pulley and long belt. But the noise was the same.
So I listened and thought the noise was from the water pump. So I changed the water pump. The noise was the same.
Finally took my car to my indy and suggested the noise was from the A/C pump and sure enough that's what it was.
So, the estimate is $1150 for a new pump plus drier, etc, etc plus labor. But, I can keep my beloved wagon for a few more years.
