The official instructions require you to remove a tiny hidden T10 screw on the upper front side of the shifter knob so that you can remove both knob halves and slide the new Jalousie over the shifter handle. Many of us, particularly those wearing bifocals or otherwise vision impaired, opt for the alternate method.
The alternate method is to use an extremely sharp razor blade to split the right side of the jalousie along the center line of the right side trunnion. This way you can wrap the new jalousie around the shifter with knob still attached, and both halves of the split trunnion fit into the shallow groove found on the sides of the shifter. The split is completely invisible after installation.
