CANbus issues? Posted by ELaw [Email] (#699) [Profile/Gallery] (more from ELaw) on Thu, 11 Feb 2016 07:08:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
EDIT: I wrote what's below from memory and have since talked to my mother and there are a few corrections and additions:
* Nothing has ever come on by itself. All the problems are things failing to work.
* Windshield wipers only work on one speed.
* A new battery has already been tried.
* Her mechanic has already tried a "relay package"... whatever that is, with no improvement.
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
My mother has an '06 9-5 that has suddenly developed a number of weird sporadic electrical issues. Turn signals failing to work or coming on by themselves, headlights going out, wipers failing to work or only working at certain speeds.
None of the problems are constant or reproducible on demand - they are intermittent and unpredictable.
It seems to me this is a "systems" problem, maybe related to a CANbus or DICE issue?
For the most part these things started happening after the car sat for several months and ended up with a dead battery. Her (experienced Saab) mechanic has looked it over and fully charged the battery but the problems remain.
So I guess my questions are 1) could a "soft" battery cause this and if not 2) where do we start looking? Are there common failure points with the DICE module or related stuff?
