Well, I'm new to the 9-5 world, but on my '08 2.3t, the alarm led flashes whenever I shut off the engine, locked or not. It's blinking in the dark right now, outside the garage, unlocked, and it seems to be a normal default condition.

Doubt if an LED would be much drain at all.

Check amount of drain at the battery ... any pin switches 'sticky' at the doors? Trunk light staying on? Ignition switch popping out when turned all the way off?
