The failure of the crimp connection was not caused by corrosion. Probably a poorly made factory crimp.
The joint was leaking badly when I bought the car so I am not sure if it started slow. There is nothing preventative to prevent the failure of the crimp other than not turning to extreme lock where there is a spike of pressure. For the steel part of the lines I am spraying with rust check (green cap) to prevent rust.
The part was available but it was after market and you need to buy the two lines to use it as they reversed the couplings. I ended up just splicing in a section of the new line using compression fittings. They were just $4 each, you will need 10mm couplings. They are good for pressures up to 3000lbs which is well above the 1000 or so lbs that the power steering pump puts out.
The other option is to have a hydraulic shop make a line for you. The place where I bought my fittings had a busy business fabricating power steering lines. They also said that they can re-crimp the original line if you bring in the part. See my picture link, there are a couple of pictures there that show my repair.
