Has anyone diagnosed this? I find nothing in the board that mentions this exact problem. The whirring sound is a bit high pitched, not real loud but annoying. Sound is present at idle only with a/c on (in both heat and cooling modes) and increases to a higher pitch upon acceleration but not noticeable at highway speeds, though probably drowned out by the usual freeway noises. A/C cools just fine. My guess is something related to the compressor (original unit, '02 2.3t, 132,000 miles) is going. Thanks for help with this.
