Just to be clear, where do you see the code 18? When you do the recalibration does the 18 appear on the right side of the display, or is it a 1 on the left and 8 on the right?
If the latter, that points to the infamous blend door issues that these cars are known for.
If the only code you are getting is the 18 on the right side, I can't imagine that would impact the heat performance any; your heater core is getting how coolant all the time, and it's a matter of the blend doors routing the air properly.
When my heat started getting inconsistent, we ended up replacing the heater core.
