Probably should surprise no one, but plastic bolts get brittle over time and can fail. I didn't know until today that the bolt fixing the filler pipe to the chassis on my '99 SE 2.3lpt was plastic. On my daughter's '06 it's metal - but on the '99 the head parted ways from the body of the bolt and left the filler pipe flopping around. Couldn't coax it out with an EZ-out, so I drilled it and installed a metal bolt into the plastic. If that fails, I'll drill and tap the chassis. I'm not the first, I found an old post on the same thing . . .
