2004 Arc with 120K on the clock. Been noticing over the years that the engine noise is getting louder (or someone drilled holes in my firewall..)
While this annoyed me, I let it go as when I discussed it with a few mechanics, the answer was, yea, they sound that way when they get older...

However, lately there is a new engine sound. Sounds metallic and the engine has a strange vibration, a feeling that something is lopsided in the engine - it can be felt when putting ones hand on the DIC cover, and more pronounced when hand is resting on the gear shift (when in neutral).
Engine has good power, is strong, no smoke out of tail pipe.

I am thinking maybe motor mounts are shot at 120K? or crankshaft bearing? (heaven forbid). My oil change averages 4.5k miles and always Mobil 1 full synthetic.
Any suggestion as to what this may be or how to diagnose is appreciated.
