Merlot and tan is one of the best looks going... There are a couple 9-5's in our extended family all 2004's, one of which is a Merlot. We are north of the border from you and at least as salty so I feel your pain! There are oil sprays that cling better than others and generally annual application is desirable. We use Rust Check on our cars. Krown is another good one. But both of those are Canadian companies, and it seems this is not as big a thing in the USA. That said, it would not be that long a drive for you up to Quebec! Rust Checks are everywhere around here. The only way to keep cars on the road... SAABs are pretty good: I've got 1989 and 1993 c900's, and most Mazdas I see older than about 3-5 years have as much or more rust.
The trouble with parts cars is they are parts cars for a reason. So you might have to cast a fairly wide net to find Merlot wagon parts in sufficiently good shape to be worth swapping, and then shipping can be troublesome.
If you catch the rust early enough, repair is not so bad, even diy. Others here might have good suggestions on where to get an exact match for merlot if you DIY it. A shop should have no trouble matching.
good luck! Hopefully you can keep this one on the road for a long time!
