Interior Door Handle/Latch Adjustment Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 12 Aug 2016 06:06:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The interior driver's side door latch handle on my '08 Aero sedan no longer releases the latching mechanism. The problem has gotten worse over the past 18 months. It went from being slightly sloppy and requiring deliberate full stroking of the handle, to occasionally needing to use two attempts on the handle to release, to not releasing at all on Wednesday.
I removed the interior handle Wednesday night and placed a large nylon tie-wrap around the stirrup on the end of the release cable that the latch mechanism connects to, then snipped the tie-wrap flush. This increased the size of the stirrup and the interior handle no longer flops loose but is once again snug to the door panel when the door is closed.
The interior handle works much better now but was not returned to 'new condition' with this MacGyvering. Is there an adjustment on the cable that connects the interior handle to the latch mechanism? Is this cable known to be prone to stretching? Larry West has asked about this in the past as well, so it is not a completely unique situation.
Thanks,
