Horn mystery goes on

I've had horn gremlins for some time. I planned to remove the horn switch plates and clean the springs and contacts of oxidation. I pulled the airbag cover (still can't see how to remove those electrical connectors - anyone know how?) to take a look. I pressed on the upper plate of the horn switch several times and reassembled things. Now the horn works fine (other than pushing on the upper left). I'm puzzled. Perhaps I rubbed through some oxidation or the horn needs exercise like the power mirror motors? It seems something is going on at the horn that isn't the clockspring. Can I bench test the horn switch when removed and if so, how?
