REAR SUSPENSION Posted by saabsince 93b [Email] (#972) [Profile/Gallery] (more from saabsince 93b) on Sat, 12 Nov 2016 08:19:40 In Reply to: 9-5 Rear Camber, K. Daehnke, Sat, 12 Nov 2016 06:40:30 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The problem that is being discussed here is cupping. Camber rarely causes cupping. Cupping is caused by excessive toe-in in most cases.
Low ride height increased the camber AND toe-in. That is the way the suspension on the Saab 9-5 is designed.
Measure the ride height on your car. Consult the
WIS on how to do this. It is actually very easy. If your car is too low add spacers to bring the ride height up to spec.
There is also the factor that the rear rubber bushings wear and deteriorate. The forward bushing on the trailing arm is a large rubber bushing that wears and can change the toe-in. I like to replace this with poly bushings.
The mount for this bushing the adjustment for toe.
Always have a good full 4 wheel alignment after you make suspension changes.hh
There have been lots of discussions here on this subject. I went through solving this problem ten or more years ago on our 9-5s.
A final work on camber. I have a 1973 Porsche 911 that has a few degrees of negative camber as a standard setting. The rear tires ALWAYS wear lots on the inside edge. They NEVER cup. This is all normal for this car. my point is that CAMBER IS NOT A BAD THING.
