Scott,
Hello fellow Saabnet.com Members! I'm posting a copy of an email I sent to friends and family. Many of you already know that I founded Poverty2Prosperity.org in 2008 as a non-profit to help the working poor. This email is about P2P and tomorrow (Giving Tuesday). Thanks for your consideration.
-Scott

Hi Everyone,
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday and if you're considering a year-end tax-deductible donation, I wanted to remind you of Poverty2Prosperity.org, the non-profit I founded in 2008 to help the working poor with "help-outs" rather than "hand-outs". We make zero-percent interest loans to the working poor around the world and in the United States. Over the past 8+ years, we have an incredible 99.61% repayment rate. As repayments are made, we turn around and make new loans. Because of the high repayment rate, donations in 2008 are still making new loans today and will continue to make new loans for another 90+ years. We've also been able to expand our funds from helping just those with a business idea to work themselves and their families out of poverty to other types of funds that help to break the cycle of poverty. We now have been able to add the following funds:
Education - We feel very strongly that getting an education is a solid pathway to getting a job or starting a business (maybe even employing others) and lifting oneself (and others) out of poverty. Because of this, we have created an Education fund that not only makes loans to those seeking funds for tuition fees but also to education providers who need funds for resources to properly provide a good and full educational experience. We have already made 245 loans in this fund with a 100% repayment rate.
Youth - P2P also introduced a fund to focus on younger people (24 and under) who were starting businesses. Why youth? Typically, young adults have less experience and fewer resources. In many communities, there just aren't enough jobs to go around, and young adults who have less experience are left out of the work force. With a micro-loan, they have real choices. They can create their own job or get additional education to open up more possibilities.
Housing - We also firmly believe that having stable housing does many great things to help end poverty. This enables people to get jobs more easily and, more importantly, keep them. It also gives parents a better chance at making education for their children a priority - giving kids a safe, worry-free place to be after school. In addition, a stable home means that a family can start a home based business. We created a Personal Housing fund to make these types of loans and have made 204 loans so far with a 100% repayment rate to date.
Women - 70% of women and their families are living in poverty. There are good reasons to loan to women who do not have access to traditional credit. Repayment rates for microloans made to women are higher than men. They also contribute larger portions of their income to household consumption than their male counterparts. Working women are more likely to educate their daughters than men. (No offense to men, it's just the stats from around the world. We make loans to plenty of deserving, hard-working men in our other funds).
Memorial Wall - This fund was made as a way to help folks remember loved ones in a way that honors the people that they were by spreading kindness around the world by helping others.
I hope you'll consider giving to Poverty2Prosperity.org on Giving Tuesday or for a year end tax-deductible donation. If possible, please share this email with your friends and family.
