Here's my junk science, oddball explanation as to why I like the Lucas product and don't bother with the Techron or similar things anymore:
The quality of fuel we get in 2017 is remarkable next to fuels 10, 20, 30 years ago. So much less sulfur and other garbage; the kind of garbage that caused deposits on valves, etc. What I see now is, fuel with substances that strip properties away from plastic components in the fuel chain. Just like powerful cleansers strip the plasticizer off our dashboards and poly trim, fuel and most additives in it leave the plastic in the fuel system brittle and vulnerable, I think. A lubricant like Lucas nourishes those parts maybe like Armorall nourishes a dry and vulnerable piece of plastic trim.
I'm whistling in the dark here, but I have 220,000 miles on the original fuel pump on the '04 Arc. I think using the Lucas may have played a role.
