Long, slow, lazy banked turn to the left

This Sunday, late afternoon...
Headed South from Illinois, via US 51 and gently bypassing around the built up area of Union City, TN (and driving a different 9-5), I suddenly realized by 2004 9-5 Aero always conks out/loses power right here - never passes through here without misbehaving. All my other cars are fine here.
US 51 Southbound is maybe a 55 mph observed limit, well banked, gentle gradual curve that takes maybe a mile (maybe more) to negotiate.
I'm speculating that there's something in the fuel tank and it is finding its way into position and blocking the fuel supply to the pump.
Does this sound like a sensible lead to check out? Much obliged. This problem has come and come, come and gone for 2 years and 38,000 miles.
Would you drop the tank or inspect in place?
