Oh, you are not crazy at all good on ya '! This is the kind of thing expected of a responsible owner who keeps a car! People used to do this kind of thing all the time and still do in Europe or w/ fine motor cars! we are such a disposable culture now and waste and don't appreciate a good motor car people use frankly ridiculous, ludicrous, lame, absurd, excuses, rationales for getting rid of, replacing a car (And for not maintaining it properly as well ! ) Just think w/ proper maintenance, (and a bit of luck ) motors, mechanical components will now outlast a lot of other parts ! often going hundreds of thousands of miles Ironically, the "recycle, green " movement phenomenon could have exacerbated this wanton waste! Young people DO want a greener planet yet think nothing of trashing, junking a car that needs only a few repairs to be fine ! they can rationalize "oh well it will be recycled so it's OK " Brings to mind the old expression , "well the ashtrays are full now so we'll sell it for scrap ! " So, recovering the seats? I commend you for doing it! I would too! There used to be Plenty of good folks right here in the USA that could accurately reproduce the factory design or do whatever you want ! Mild to wild! guys, shops that can do custom interiors! heck, we used to go down to Nogales Mexico(only 60 miles south of Tucson Arizona ) and get a new interior, headliner, and seats recovered in about the time it took to have lunch at La caverna ! (a restaurant carved out of caves in Nogales !) and it was cheap and excellent craftsmanship too! wowo ! an army of workers would swarm the car and in minutes the interior was stripped and being measured and cut, sewed ! you got third world prices and old world quality! Now, in the USA? USED to be LOTS of quality craftsmen too! maybe in your home town would! (It's not that hard to cut, stitch sew leather! -really ! tho now some. many won't touch a seat w/ airbags? that's silly! What cowards! Well once again, probably because we have so many hungry lawyers who will sue anyone for anything! It's paranoia. fear of litigation and has destroyed. Harmed many things now in, the USA in particular in a myriad of many ways and caused prices to increase! Sorry, apologies to the J.D's (attorneys ) in this crowd! but it's a fact and YOU (and /or others in your profession ) are to blame!
