I did that for a former long distance daily commute: 85 miles each way. The trip to rail station #1 was 9 miles; I drove from home in Saab #1 and parked it at the station. Then two train lines later (with a change of trains in L.A. Union Station), I drove Saab #2 from station #2 to work (6 miles). Saab #2 is left behind overnight. It worked out quite nicely for me. In the event of overtime, I simply drove Saab #2 all the way home and then drove all the way to work the next day to "re-prime the pump", as it were.
