Yes you are looking at removing the transmission to replace the flex plate. Yes it usually does not damage anything else unless you ignore it long enough that it goes from being a crack to starting to coming apart. But being that you see 2 cracks allready I would not push it. I have never seen it in a 9-5 but saw it a few times in old 9-3's. Good Luck, Bernie
