The patient is a 2000 Aero with 180k on the clock.
It has had an oil leak under the passenger side engine for a while now. It was not alarming but it did always leave a spot in the the driveway. My primarty suspect was the oil pump cover o0ring and seal.
so here is what I did:
- replaced the o-ring and seal on the oil pump cover. the O-ring was hard, brittle and cracked.
- replaced the oil sender (it did not appear to be leaking but as long as Im in there ... )
- replaced the oil trap hoses which were spongy and swollen.
- replaced the o rings on the oil
- dropped the oil pan to check for sludge for the hell of it (clean as a whistle btw!). used proper anerobic sealant on the pan when I replaced it.
- replaced the oil pickup tube o-ring in the pan, it was in bad shape.
- replaced the oil delivery tube o-rings, they were really bad, hard and deformed
Buttoned her up, but still on jack stands I idled the car for about 20 minutes. to check for leaks.
- there seems to be minor seepage around the crank shaft seal that I had replaced. very minor but irritating. Im not too concerned about this.
- there is a slow drip-drip off of the oil drain plug. This drip-drip is what I am calling "significant". I estimate 3 drips per minute.
investigating ... the oil seems to be dripping down the side of the pan and dripping off of the drain plug.
but I cant find where the oil is originating from.
I notice that it is dripping down oil trp tube where it connects to the pan:
