ATF Overfill Question Posted by fdw201 [Email] (#2066) [Profile/Gallery] (more from fdw201) on Sat, 10 Mar 2018 12:49:56 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
When I purchased my 2003 9-5 3.0 with 102k miles, the transmission had been rebuilt by Transmission Solutions in Eugene, OR. The rebuild occurred when the car had 93,000 miles. The paperwork I got with the car for the transmission service/warranty recommended that the fluid be changed every 25,000 miles.
As my car crossed over 118,000 miles this month, I went ahead and got what I needed to do the change. Before today, I had never checked the transmission fluid level.
Imagine my surprise today when I drained a little over 6 quarts of fluid from the transmission from the drain plug... it must have really been overfilled!
Is there any reason why the fluid would have been overfilled on a rebuild? Will it have done any long-term damage?
I changed the fluid twice, as it looked to be in good shape on the first drain. I only needed about 4.25 quarts to get it between the lines on the dipstick.
Thanks!
