I just went through this on my 03 2.3, 3 times. The first two times I used a Reinz gasket and it leaked like a sieve. The first time I used RTV to hold it in place. The second time I used another Reinz gasket, no RTV but used the dental floss trick, which is tedious but works. Leaked. Third time I used an Elring gasket and dental floss, worked. The center gasket held and didn't leak the first time so I didn't replace it the 2nd and 3rd time.
Maybe I had bad luck with the gaskets I ordered, maybe there's something going on with them that was not apparent when I inspected them but that was my experience. When I say they leaked, it was days between replacements so they kept leaking, it wasn't a few drops right after installation.
