Bad temperature sender and bizarre symptom... Posted by Larry West [Email] (#1140) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Larry West) on Tue, 22 May 2018 10:24:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The temperature sensor in the cylinder head of my 2002 Aero Kombi (auto) has been acting up for several months.
In the cold, the temp gauge needle would just drop to the bottom, and the car would motor on. The temp gauge would come back on the next start. It does eventually set a code, P0119 "(Generic) Engine Coolant Temp. Circuit Intermittent/Erratic", or P0118 "Generic" Engine Coolant Temp Circuit High Input".
Since it's been warmer, and the AC is on a lot more often, Trionic shuts off the AC when the sensor isn't working right, and it gets a tad warm in the car. This is annoying.
I have the replacement sensor, and will swap it in on Saturday, weather permitting.
But I also have gotten on a few occasions a really bizarre symptom. It seems to happen just when the sensor is "failing", AND I am coming to a stop, with brakes. The motor revs to 3000 RPM, and I have to stand on the brake to prevent the car from moving. This happened yesterday, and it took a minute or so for the motor to finally drop back to idle. All this while the car was at a standstill, foot fully on the brake.
Hopefully, it'll all clear up with the new sensor. But if anyone has heard of this, let me know!
