I guess this could fall into "utility", but another reason we got the Saab was the size. The 3-series and A4 were just too small and the 5-series and A6 too expensive. The 9-5 Aero is cheaper than a loaded 330i with similar performance and a lot more cargo/leg/head room.
And another reason for Saab - they still make a manual transmission in a mid-size station wagon. Audi's A6 and Volvo V70/XC are auto (with manual override option). Again, BMW 325xi and A4 Avant are a little too small. I guess I could have gone to a Subaru, but then again, I would have lost a 'little' performance going that route, which really wasn't acceptable either.
