My '01 Aero developed a case of morning sickness: every morning hard to start, stumbling, stalling. the rest of the day it was fine. The poor running lasted about 30 secs or so but it occurred every morning, regardless of environmental conditions (cold, warm, hot, dry, damp, etc). to my mind, the symptom pointed to a leaky check valve.
This evening on the drive home I caught a strong whiff of fuel. I pulled over to have a look at the fuel pump connections. I found that the output line was severely kinked, so much that I was surprised that the pump was able to supply fuel at all.
I saw a small amount of fuel leaking from the kink. I gently unkinked it as best I could ... and I could hear the gurgle of air mixing with the fuel as it rushed past the kink.
I believe that this very small puncture is the cause of the morning sickness. it was slowly leaking pressure overnight.
thoughts on remedies? a few that come to mind:
1 - self amalgamating silicone tape (that stuff is amazing honestly)
2 - cut the kink and splice in regular fuel line.
3 - cut the fuel line and attempt to re-attach the hard line to the check valve.
I have never had luck re-attaching the hard line. Seems that a heat gun would make it work but frankly I'm afraid to use a heat gun in the area. has anyone had luck re attaching these hard fuel lines? whats the trick?
