Thanks for your response. I had originally thought that the wagon's battery just wore out - it's more than 2 years old, and with 9-5's, sometimes about 3 years is all you get out of a battery. I drove the car around a bit to recharge the battery, and left it to deal with the next day. But as I was pulling into the driveway in our other 9-5, I noticed that the parking lights on the wagon seemed to be lit! Turns out that SOMEONE (teenaged college student driver...) had switched the headlights to the middle position on the wagon - parking lights. That's what drained the battery.
IMHO the parking light switch is one of the real "Achilles Heel" points on all Saabs I've ever owned: 900, 9000T, 9-5. Why the designers felt that the middle position of the headlight switch should NOT be subject to the status of the car's electrical system via the ignition switch (i.e., when the ignition is off, the headlights also switch off...) is beyond me. Years ago, a parking valet had changed my 900's headlight switch from "On" to "Parking", and overnight, that drained the battery. I can't think of a reason why you would want the parking lights on while the car wasn't running. Hazard flashers, of course, but parking lights?
