Brake Light Switch issues... Posted by Larry West [Email] (#1140) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Larry West) on Thu, 27 Dec 2018 05:40:09 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Well, that's what Tech2 tells me, anyway...
For some time, I've been getting a P1576 code "Brake Light Switch Circuit. Open/Short to B+." on my 2002 Aero Combi.
It sets the MIL, then clears it after a while, and the cycle repeats. I've been meaning to get after this for a while, as it prevents getting the car inspected.
Yesterday, I started getting a TCS OFF light, and at one point, the whole "Christmas Tree". I'm guessing the code that lit the tree was C0131 "Pressure Sensor failure" (from the ESP system via Tech2). I hope this was just spurious, as it hasn't repeated, and $300 for a little switch seems a bit much.
But I also got a C2470 "Brake Light Switch. Open Circuit" from the ESP system. Which I also got this morning, when just the TCS OFF light came on.
Brake lights DO WORK. Cruise DOES NOT work.
Last summer, I replaced BOTH brake light switches (a real bear, as the new switch wasn't molded for the thicker metal on the older car...), and the P1576 kept on coming.
So, I'm wondering if there might be a common part/wire/path/??? between the P1576 & C2470 codes. I REALLY don't want to attempt swapping brake light switches again. Though, I suppose it's worth a look up there to see if one or both came loose...
