I've been wanting to do this to my Aero wagon for a long time.
It would be easiest and cheapest to have a donor car at hand to get all the parts off.
See the picture below for all the parts you need.
I found a good explanation on how to do the conversion including the wiring on another SAAB message board.
You don't need a different harness or gauge cluster.
If I can find the link I can email it to you.
I wanted even more power out of my Aero and the auto trans was holding me back.
But my priorities have changed so I don't think I'll do it.
Prices are so low I've been thinking of getting another manual transmission project car for $1500 to $2500.
There have been several cheap 9-3 and E36 convertibles for sale locally.
I've got an E30 5 speed and it's really fun to drive.
