Diagnosing AW55 transmission issue . . . 1 Saabers Like This Post! Sounds like this is all being managed through your mechanic (shop). Is the diagnosis that the clutches are all okay coming from your mechanic? If you trust them to really know what they are doing, then I'd go with their recommendation - BUT consider saving some money by swapping in a used transmission control module (TCM) or a used valve body (VB) from the appropriate model year SAAB 9-5. Just have them explain their logic to you of why you should install a brand new valve body. "Crossing over" a Saturn part that is that going to work perfectly means knowing what's what.
Below is a link to a 'Google searched' remanufacturer website w. $570 price for reman valve body - they require your VIN to order and claim that there are seven different valve body configurations. I am not recommending them, just a data point as you figure out what direction you want to go.
Hope this helps some,
Mark in Marine
P.S. Our 9-5's are the "friendliest" of AW55 transmission cars in that the valve body can be opened up IN THE CAR to replace all the solenoids if necessary - and the valve body itself can even be removed without taking out the transmission. What will they quote for labor ?
