2004 9-5 Arc 5 spd, 128K miles
Driving down the road a few days ago and shift into 5th and I hear what faintly sounded like a piece of plastic snapping. Transmission behaved normally for the next 2-3 miles, and for the next few days.
Yesterday, go for a drive and shift into 5th, would not go, didn’t want to force it. Felt like something was keeping the stick from slipping into the 5th position. Drove for 3-4 miles and repeated attempts would not get into 5th. Got home and when I attempted to put it into Reverse, same issue. Was able to coax it into R.
Went on a drive today and getting into 5th occasionally worked – sometimes blocked, sometimes it went in. On returning home and trying reverse, same issue as before, had to coax it into R.
Any suggestion as to what may be wrong? Any diagnostic things I can do? Something I can ‘take the covers off of to inspect?
Hoping this isn’t bad news but "I have a a bad feeling about this...."
thanks
J
