Knock Off DIC update. Posted by PGAero [Email] (#1143) [Profile/Gallery] (more from PGAero) on Thu, 2 May 2019 08:12:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I bought a 2006 9-5 Wagon a couple weeks back. I have ALL the records for this car, and it is very low mileage.
The DIC was replaced 3/30/17 at 42K miles. The DIC has 4K miles on it over the last two years as the car is now at 46K. Over the last two days, the DIC left the car stranded or stalled on three occasions. (I suspected the CPS). Swapped DIC to a known good spare, and no problems.
Stall one: died at speed after warm up
Stall two: died at speed after warm up
Fail three: wouldn't start until spare DIC installed.
No Check Engine Light throughout the whole failure.
Caveat: the DIC actually failed in my 2003 9-5 because I was not comfortable keeping it in the "family car" when I know that I had a brand new original to put in the new car. After a few weeks of driving the 2003 with the China-made DIC, the failure occurred. (Spark plugs are nearly new correct NGKs in both cars.)
Caveat 2: The service record for the DIC install includes new spark plugs at the same time and the shop charged ~$450 for the DIC, which is stamped "Made in China" on the top and has no other markings or date codes.
