I have never heard of a selector rod bushing being worn. I don't know what he is talking about.
There is an alignment procedure which I assume your mechanic used. This involves inserting a pin in the trans and one in the console shifter with the transmission in 4th gear. With both pins in place your adjust the coupler at the end of the shift shaft.
You may also have worn ball joints in the parallelogram coupler mechanism. You have the newer design with metal ball joints that is more reliable than the old plastic joint part.
Ask your mechanic how he adjusted/aligned the mechanism.
