Oil light - maybe or maybe not . . . Posted by Mark in Marine [Email] (#1837) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mark in Marine) on Wed, 24 Jul 2019 07:45:31 In Reply to: engine vibration at stop, plus oil light, TML [Profile/Gallery] , Wed, 24 Jul 2019 05:41:56 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The vibration in "D" with the brake on can indeed be different than in "P". So that wouldn't necessarily be a surprise or make the car "bad" in my opinion.
BUT the oil light - that MIGHT be an issue or not. A few years back I purchased a 2005 9-5 Arc for our daughter, and because maintenance records were sketchy, I dropped the oil pan, but found no sludge. I installed new O-rings on the pickup and cross over pipe, and I changed out the oil pressure sensor. The brand new sensor was faulty; it lit the oil pressure light at low rpm. It scared me, but since there seemed to be no issues before my work, I installed a new sensor, and it never lit the warning light again until the car was totaled by a driver running a red light.
So the oil sensor is PLAUSIBLE, but make sure you actually measure the oil pressure. If the pressure is actually low, there's more work involved - perhaps a sticking oil pressure relief valve, which requires a pan drop to inspect and service.
Hope this helps.
