I recently went through a lot of hassle with my 04 9-5 (auto) ABS module.
I swapped in a manual abs module and attempted to reprogram to an auto. Via tech 2 we reset steering angle and tried to change the abs from manual to auto - no good.

I then sent my original abs into BBA for rebuild. They repaired it and then shipped to someone else and they couldn't find who they shipped it to. UGH! They bought the same part number tested it and shipped it. This did need to be reprogrammed via tech 2. Even though it is the same part number the car needs to go through the programming to accept it. Both ABS setting and steering angle calibration were required to get the car to recognize the unit.

If the unit is from another car it does need reprogramming....at least for the 04 year, which was apparently a 1 year only part number.
