I recently had a similar issue with my '99 9-5 V6. Crank and crank and crank (6+ seconds) and then vroom, car runs like nothing is wrong.
I replaced:
* the fuel filter (at 160k miles on original filter it really needed that)
* the fuel pressure regulator (again, original FPR)
* the injectors
And now my hard starting problem is gone.
My problem was (I think) caused by leaky injectors slowly draining fuel into the intake area, which then expands back out into the intake manifold. There was a big cloud of unburned fuel every time I started the car. Those 6+ seconds of cranking flushed the fuel out of the flooded intake, and then the car would start without issue.
If you're concerned about fuel leaking back down from the injector rail, maybe try replacing the pressure regulator (and filter if that's never been done).
