the patient: 2008 9-5 2.3T SC, 174k mi
the car has had a suspension refresh completed a few weeks ago. bilstien sport shocks, bushings, links, ball joints, tire rod ends
Symptom: when turning there is a gentle knock emanating from the left side wheel well.
the noise is clearly from the left side only, its quiet on the right. the knock happens when turning right or left.
there is no noise at all over bumps, braking, acceleration or small steering inputs (lane change etc).
touching the inner tie rod while turning I thought I felt some play. I replaced it (indeed the tie rod was worn and there was some play). However after replacing the inner tie rod the noise persists (possibly reduced but still there)
surely I suspect the rack but the steering is tight and precise, infact tighter than my other cars. So aside from this knock there is no indication the rack is to blame.
if it is the rack, any tips, pointers? links. Seems like a huge job, so I am hoping there are other possibilities.
