Sudden surges in power - transmission issue? Posted by Chip Fichot [Email] (#2597) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Chip Fichot) on Tue, 14 Jan 2020 10:40:40 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
2003 9-5 2.3 LPT; just turned 30K miles.
Transmission fluid was changed about a year ago at 25K by an indie shop(now that I'm looking at the invoice...it lists "5 ATF-6 TRANS FLUID" in the parts?!?)
Most recent service was to replace the plugs and the ignition cassette, which I did myself in November with 28664 miles.
I did check the fluids recently and everything was okay; no evidence of leaks.
Starting about a month ago, I have been noticing that when giving the throttle a small amount of pressure at lower speeds (for example, after turning left from a four-lane road to another four-lane road or when giving a little more gas to go up an incline), there will occasionally be a bit of a jolt and the engine will rev up with a noticeable increase in power.
It seems like it's downshifting, but if it is it's doing it abruptly - almost as if it were being changed to "Sport" mode - and it's doing it for no good reason that I can think of, since I'm not giving it a whole lot of gas and the revs are probably below 2K.
I can replicate the behavior, but not consistently and it's not driven often (but has been driven more often in the last month).
I don't have an OBD or Tech2 reader, and there are no warning lights coming on the dash. Turbo seems to be spooling correctly (of course, I'm not necessarily watching the dash when this happens).
Has anybody had similar experiences or does anyone have any insight that might help identify what's happening?
Thanks in advance!
