I'm going to swap in a spare battery (charging it first)... just wanted to check in in case someone had a good suggestion...
Car (2005 arc) was having difficulty starting, and I noticed a periodic wavering of the dash lighting intensity... to me that is suggestive of the alternator not charging very well, and in past experience with other saabs, has always meant a new alternator was in my immediate future (afaik, this one is the original). However, the battery was down to 11.8V today (cold) I started it, measured 13.4V running... after a couple minutes, that had faded to 12.9V... turned it off, battery at 12.3V (not disconnected from the internal circuitry in any of these tests). Car started up great cold today, but was touchy when warm after multiple starts and stops from highway trips yesterday... battery has corrosion around terminals.
First thought is new battery is essential. Probably wouldn't hurt to order cables as they would be worth doing eventually anyway. Symptoms sound like alternator is still likely to me. What's your experience? Have you had these symptoms with just a bad battery? Was planning to use this car on a long drive the day after tomorrow, but maybe we will need to take the other one.
