I had to replace a set of Michelin Pilot A/S 3+ tires on our '04 Aero SportCombi at just 12,500 miles! The shoulders were worn to the cords but the centers had at least 6/32 remaining. My indie has known us for years and tells us we drive at low speeds like in an autocross. This is just why my wife drives an Aero SC and not a Hyundai Santa Fe. An Aero SC is simply a LO-CG-SUV. Why manufacturers don't sell more sport wagons in the US just baffles me.
We'll appeal and try for some $$ back on the tires. My indie said we were likely running under inflated and should be at 38 psi or better. Yup. I typically run around 35 - 36. Not enough. What is the consensus on tire pressures for an Aero?
So if we're gonna rip through tires I'll go with inexpensive Riken Raptors. Kudos to Saabsince93 for recommending them. We run 225/45ZR17s and not the 235s. I had my son put a set on his '03 9-5 Aero 5 spd sedan. We've only JUST put them on, but so far so good. We typically get about 22 - 25,000 miles out of a set of tires. Yes, we drive a bit aggressively on surface streets. Dedicated 205/60HR16 snow tires and rims go on at Thanksgiving and come off around Tax Day on both our Aeros. This typically yields three years out of a set of "Summer" tires.
I'll make a point of running them at 40 - 42 psig, rotating every 5,000 miles and having an alignment done next week. These tires will only see 3 season use anyway. The Aero SC has relatively new lower control arms and all bushings, as well as all subframe bushings. It certainly tracks straight, but there could be a caster issue. I'm not anticipating any huge deviation in alignment.
