I wasn't happy with the stock Pirelli P6s in 215/55 x 16. Sidewall too flaccid, excessive wear on treads because of it. Stock 9-5 Arc, back then.
But General AS-05s in 205/55 x 16 seem to be tougher, better connected and the handling is more composed.
I've got 4 of these 9-5s, two Aero and two starting with the base ride height. I like to swap the 17s to a base suspension and the 16s (one set) can go to an Aero. In the winter, this reduces a lot of the harshness and it reduces the risk of pothole damage on winter roads.
For this First Gen 9-5, I think the recipe is to upgrade the suspension and then don't go nuts with oversized wheels or tires. Big wheels and tires on this suspension (with its clear limitations) get you nothing. IMO of course.
