2001 9-5 MANUAL trany

My wife was out using the car. She tried to start it and the key wouldn’t turn in ignition. (Had never happened to me before). Panic situation for her in that she was in a line up for a ferry to start family vacation. I could only coach her by phone because I was already loaded on to the ferry with our RV and couldn’t get to her.

Ferry left & she’s stuck there by herself. AAA guy came to assist and started the car by Forcing the key to turn with pliers.

Wife drove home, parked the Saab and took her car the next day.

Now I’m trying to diagnose problem and order parts while on a remote island on BCs west coast for 3 weeks so I can fix car when I get back.

First: would have wiggling steering wheel allow key to have turned?

Since key was forced to turn with pliers what part/s are likely needed to be replaced.
Wife noted that key fob would not lock the car when she left it.

Any info or suggestions greatly appreciated! Thank you.
