Priming helped a lot Posted by bobc [Email] (#473) [Profile/Gallery] (more from bobc) on Fri, 27 Aug 2021 08:50:50 In Reply to: hard start first thing, fine rest of the day. help diagnose, bobc [Profile/Gallery] , Thu, 26 Aug 2021 19:31:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
This morning I primed before starting. 6 or 7 on-off cycles of the key and then turn the key to start and it started up.
I use ethanol-free fuel almost exclusively in my cars these days, however since I have been out of town the last 2 tank fulls were with "up to 10 percent ethanol" fuel. But it was name brand fuel : Shell and BP.
So I think I can confirm that the hard starts are caused by loss of pressure in the fuel line but I don't know if the pressure loss was caused by a failing check valve or bad fuel. I'll be back home in a week and I can switch back to ethanol free and see what happens.
Looks like the fuel line check valves are not available, but I believe I have some "in stock" at home. It looks like I can access it under the seat on this '08. No fun at all to install the barbed end into the hard plastic line.
