My 2000 9-5 went into LMH two times in 5 years, fortunately in my driveway. Now I carry a couple of screwdrivers and a cheap code scanner to erase the code if it happens again. And a AAA membership! Troubleshooting mostly consists of connecting test lights and wiggling the wires, checking for intermittent connections and checking voltages at the two connectors. For those procedures, consult the WIS, available here under the "Manuals" tab. I did take a 9-5 throttle body apart once and nearly half of the insulation on the many wires inside, was gone. It just dries out and flakes off. I purchased that one off ebay and it's possible that any throttle body that old will be similar. But it could be the external wiring as well so you don't want to go out and get a new throttle body.
