Most likely causes in my experience are around the coolant bypass valve and its related rats-nest of hoses or the heater core. The bypass valve occasionally leaking (or one of its hoses) should be easy to look for as they are relatively visible and dried dexcool residue (whitish) might be visible. I would expect that a heater core leak would be more persistent and result in both more consistent odor and an increase in cabin humidity, assuming your ACC is still calling for heat so there is pressure and coolant circulating in the core.
The bypass valve controls whether or not flows into or bypasses the heater core. It is a common failure point, and can fail sporadically (i.e. only leak when in a certain position) or fail outright (leak like mad).
Good luck
