a few things come to mind.. assuming the battery and clutch switch are all in working order now:
1) bad/loose cable or connection from the battery to the starter... Next time the problem occurs .. try wiggling the connections at the battery... and down at the starter .. if you can reach them..
2) it could be the starter motor/solenoid ...
3) or as pme suggested... the ignition switch could be bad
